Real Wedding QandA With Tanya and Kieran

Tanya and Kieran’s wedding day was heaps of fun with an unexpected twist after their wedding ceremony….

Tell us about the proposal…where was it, how did it happen, did it go as planned?

The proposal happened at the Marina Bay Sands when we were on our trip to Singapore and South Africa. He proposed on the first evening of our trip but unfortunately it did not go as planned. The news was spilt to me about a month before we left for our trip – so I knew it was coming, however I did not tell anyone that I knew. I wouldn’t want to spoil all his hard work!

Kieran I believe had planned to propose at dinner at the sky restaurant and the staff almost spoilt the surprise a number of times by wishing us “Happy Anniversary”! He decided not propose in the restaurant because the seating was quite close, instead we went back to our hotel room where I walked in to be stunned by a bed laid in beautiful rose petals and towel swans (looks better than it sounds) then he got down on one knee and you can guess the rest!

How did you choose Sirromet for your wedding? What was important to you?

We had our first visit to Sirromet a couple of months before the proposal for a wine tasting tour – we fell in love with the venue, it was just perfect and we wanted to be able to have the ceremony and reception at the same venue. It was so picturesque and the staff were just so kind – it wasn’t really a choice when it came to choosing a venue.

The look for the wedding was also perfectly complimented by Sirromet – I wanted a modern rustic look for the day and who doesn’t adore great food and wine!

How long did you spend planning your wedding?

We chose a 2 years engagement, but I slowly did everything over a period of a year – I’m an organisation freak so I had everything complete few months before.

What moment stands out as “the moment” on your wedding day?

HAHA John, definitely when I was on the phone to paramedics in the limo going get photos explaining that I need help ASAP because I’m a bride and I’m losing the light for my photos! *FYI – I had severe nausea and vomiting my entire wedding day! Understandable BRIDEZILLA moment…

Describe what it was like to be surrounded by so many special people on your wedding day.

For me, it truly demonstrated the importance of the bonds we share with our friends. We have so many amazing friends, and to have all they support and enjoyment – it made the day.

Tanya, what was it like seeing Kieran for the first time on your wedding day?

I was so impressed at how good he looked!! Fresh hair, suite, the works – he looked so nervous and happy – it’s really a special moment when you connect eyes for the first time on the day.

Kieran, what were you thinking as Tanya walked down the aisle?

Tanya, when you were walking down the aisle, there were lots of things that were running through my mind. Other than hearing my heart beating at a million miles an hour, I was taken back by your sheer beauty. You had been talking about your dress for some time now and I was amazed with how beautiful you looked in it. To finally make eye contact with you after all our planning for this special day gave me butterflies and I had to hold back the tears to avoid turning into a blubbering mess! However, mainly all I could think of was how happy I was to be the man standing at the end of the aisle to you and how lucky I am to finally call you my wife.

The Barrel Hall looked amazing with long tables beautifully styled, what were you hoping for for your wedding reception?

I was hoping to achieve a fresh and modern; I wanted to also be able to incorporate a rustic aspect with the vineyard as well as a modern take as well. I just kept everything simple, white & incorporated natural wood. I wanted everything to be simple, yet stand out – I was so in love with the reception it looked amazing.

What was on the menu at the reception? What comments did your guests make about the meal?

Entrée:

– Stack of fresh local Stradbroke Island king prawns with avocado, sauce “rose” and rocket

-Chargrilled duck and thyme sausage, creamed polenta, green beans and vine-ripened tomato sauce

Main:

– Chargrilled pasture fed 250 gram eye fillet wrapped in bacon, served with truffled Paris mash, grilled portobello mushroom, Sirromet Cabernet jus and béarnaise

– Kiev cut chicken breast filled with baby spinach, cashew and green herb butter, served with crushed sweet potato and leek, chicken and rosemary jus and salsa verde

Desert:

– Traditional crème brulee with poached seasonal fruit and biscotti

– Chocolate brownie with citrus caramel and double cream

Everyone was so impressed by the meals, impressed with the presentation, overall taste and portion sizes.

Tell us about your wedding photos and your wedding album. What were you looking for and what was it like being photographed by John Reyment?

It was wonderful to be photographed and work with John in preparing for our wedding day. He made us feel that he was so invested and excited in our wedding, how we felt and what we wanted. Candid photos are what we wanted, and our wedding album reflects all these unseen moments which tell a story of the day. The quality is more than I could have hoped for, I love every image and he created the perfect album for us.

Where did you go for your honeymoon? What was it like?

We chose to go to Bali, seminyak for our honeymoon. It was amazing, as we have not visited an Asian country before. We stayed in an amazing private villa, and the people are just so beautiful, kind and willing to share with you. We did so many activities, saw many amazing places and just took some time out to explore on our own. Will definitely be going back!

Finally, If a close friend was planning their wedding, what advice would you give them?

Best advice is to involve as little people as possible, other than yourself and your husband. We had no intervention for anyone else I wanted to do all the planning myself and design my day as I wanted it.
