Today, St Stephen’s Cathedral in Elizabeth Street Brisbane City is a very popular venue  couples choose for their church wedding in Brisbane.  Steeped in history going back to the laying of the foundation stone in 1863, the Cathedral iteslf offers brides and grooms and their guests an opportunity to enjoy moments in one of Brisbane’s iconic places of worship and celebration.

Reyment Photographics has had the honour to photograph countless weddings over the years in this beautiful Cathedral.  I still remember my “first look” inside the Cathedral almost 20 years ago. I was walking by on a hot summers day and saw the door open.  I looked in and immediately enjoyed the cool that only a large stone building can offer.  I wandered around taking it all in yet not quite sure of all the history around me.

My first wedding at St Stephen’s was fabulous.  A lovely couple and very special moments shared with their family and friends are my memories of this day all those years ago.  Photographically, I was very aware of the challenges of a dark church, a bright altar and my natural preference to be “invisible” during the ceremony.  It all came together beautifully.

Having photographed weddings at St Stephen’s Cathederal for 15 years now, it remains one of my favourite places for a wedding.  I love the architecture, the long isle, the stonework, the central location, the cool inside in summer, space to photograph guests on the steps, the grand sense of occasion you get when attending a wedding there, that there are places to photograph families and bridal parties to the side, the buildings around for contrasting architecture photos and of course the moments I have shared with the brides and grooms I have photographed at St Stephen’s.

Did you know you can do tours of the Cathedral?  Dedicated volunteers conduct a tour on weekdays at 10.30 am and again on Sundays at 9.00am, 11.00am and 1.00pm.  Why not do a tour and learn more about the Cathedral’s place in Brisbane history.

The gallery above shows some of the wedding photos I have taken at St Stephen’s Cathederal, I trust you enjoy them as much as I do.
